The campaign for a city park on the Albert Basin got a significant boost this week when it received a donation of £500 from the Riverside Church in Basin Walk, Newry.

Noel McCune, treasurer for the Riverside Church, said "The church folk want to support the Newry 2020 campaign for a public park in Newry. This is our small contribution to the welfare of the city. We believe that working people and those not working need a place to relax and enjoy a small part of God's creation. We pray for a successful outcome to the campaign."

The generous action was welcomed by chair of the Newry 2020 Park Action Group Colette Ruddy, who stated "This wonderful contribution by the Riverside Church will make a real difference to our campaign. Shared space is vital to the physical and spiritual wellbeing of Newry people. The support that we are getting from all sections of the community shows that this vision has broad appeal and that we can work together to make a better city for everyone."
